Breakfast clubs

Actions in the School Food Plan

The Action:

Set up financially self-sufficient breakfast clubs

Increasing healthy breakfast provision for children who are arriving at school hungry

Action 4 of the School Food Plan sets out a Department for Education commitment to set up financially self-sufficient breakfast clubs, to increase healthy breakfast provision for children who are arriving at school hungry.

The Department for Education awarded a contract to Magic Breakfast to set up breakfast clubs in schools where over 35% of pupils are eligible for free school meals and there is no existing breakfast provision. Magic Breakfast recruited 184 schools to the project and started deliveries of free, healthy breakfasts whilst also providing expert advice on setting up an ongoing, sustainable service.

Local charities and national providers alike are all working hard to ensure that where breakfast clubs are needed, they are provided.
