London Flagships Briefing Event announced

24 Sep 2013

The GLA is encouraging all London boroughs to send representatives to a briefing event on the London Flagships initiative, which is a key component of the School Food Plan. The invitation to boroughs from Rosie Boycott, Chair of the London Food Board, is copied below.

The GLA is pleased to announce plans to set up two London flagship boroughs, intended to demonstrate the positive impact of improving food culture in schools and across the community on a large scale, as part of the School Food Plan.

The London Food Board, led by Rosie Boycott, has partnered with the Mayor’s Fund and the Department for Education to provide funding for this exciting initiative. The two flagship boroughs will be selected through a competitive application process, with all London boroughs welcome to submit proposals.

The School Food Plan was published by the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, on 12th July 2013. You can read the plan at www.schoolfoodplan.com to learn more about the background to the flagships initiative (see Chapter 5 of the plan).

Prior to releasing the official request for proposals, the GLA will be holding a briefing event in early October, at City Hall. Attendees will be briefed on the flagships application and have an opportunity to ask questions about the requirements and application process. Full details for this event are listed below.

***IMPORTANT Each borough has been assigned spaces for three representatives only. Please ensure you have liaised internally before responding to confirm who will be attending on behalf of your borough.
